Coretta Scott King
The famous African-American person I researched was Coretta Scott King. She was born on April 27,1927.Coretta died on January 31,2006.She was born in Heiberger, Alabama. Her schools were Lincoln High School and Antioch College. Mrs.Kings parents were Obie Scott and Bernice McMurray. She was in the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People(NAACP). Coretta Scott King was the wife of Martin Luther King Jr. as well as being a civil rights leader. That is probably part of why she is so famous. She launched the Poor Peoples Campaign, led an anti-Vietnam war rally, and she wrote a book about Martin Luther King Jr. Mrs. King started the King Center and died in her sleep at a holistic health center in Rosiarto beach, Mexico. She was 78 when she died. We have Mrs.King here due to a time-travel machine. Q: So, Coretta Scott King, while your husband was out in the spotlight, what did you do? A:I raised my 4 children, Yolanda, Martin Luther III, Dexter, and Bernice.Q: What did you do when your husband died? A: I took his place in all the civil rights activities he would have done. Q: What is the name of your book that you wrote? A: It is called My Life with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. .by myself. Well, that wraps up my report on the fabulous Coretta Scott King!
The End
I wrote that in fourth grade for a report.

The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Kit Carson
Most well known people went to school, whether they did well or not. Not Kit Carson. He dropped out of school at the age of seven when his father was killed by a tree. Read on, I urge you.
A Young Person Christopher Houston Carson was born in Madison County, Kentucky, on December 24, 1809,eleventh of seventeen children. “Kit” was raised in Franklin, Missouri, where his family settled on a piece of land owned by Daniel Boone’s sons. The Carson and Boone families were friends. They worked together, talked together, and some of them even married each other! Kit was seven when his father was killed by a falling tree. This forced Kit’s family into poverty. That is when Kit dropped out of school. At age fourteen, Kit was apprenticed to a saddle maker. Kit hated being forced to be an apprentice there, and he even found the job monotonous (boring)! When Kit was sixteen, he signed up for a merchant caravan heading to Santa Fe.
The Middle of Life Kit tuned out to be a pretty good fur trapper. He said that his years as a trapper were the best years of his life. Kit Carson had three wives. Their names were Singing Grass, (Wah-ni-beh), Waa nibe, and Josefa Jaramillo. Singing Grass died from fever, while Waa-nibe died from problems after having a child. In the middle of his life, Kit learned and became fluent in Apache, Arapaho, Cheyenne, Navajo, Paiute, Shoshone, Spanish, and Ute. He also had seventeen children altogether. Pretty interesting life, huh?
Death Kit died on May 23, 1868, at age 59. He died of an aneurysm. An aneurysm is when there is a swelling in a weak part of an artery or vein. That is usually caused by disease or injury. Kit died in Fort Lyon, Colorado. He was buried in Taos, New Mexico. The headstone inscription on his grave says:
Kit Carson / Died May 23,1868 / Aged 59 Years Kit is buried next to his wife, Josefa, who had died a month before because of problems after having a baby. A Closing That pretty much sums up the life of Kit Carson, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. May he rest in peace.

John Lennon: A Hero of a Different Kind
CHILDHOOD On October 9, 1940, John Lennon was born at Oxford Street Maternity Hospital in Liverpool, England. His father, Fred Lennon, got arrested for smuggling in North Africa, and while Fred was in jail, John’s mother, Julia, began to go to pubs at night, leaving John all alone. During this, she fell in love with a waiter, and when Fred got out of jail and found out, they divorced. The waiter moved in with John and Julia. John was extremely upset about having another man in the house. Julie took John to his Aunt Mimi’s house, where he grew up. Aunt Mimi’s husband, Uncle George, bought John a harmonica, which John started to play all the time. John began to be absolutely mesmerized in the works of Lewis Carroll, who people believe influenced John’s later work. When John was 11, he was told that he was nearsighted. However, John refused to wear glasses. Sometime around 1955, John started to listen to rock n’roll, and he bugged Aunt Mimi until she bought him a very inexpensive guitar. In June of that year, Uncle George died while John was away in Scotland. When Mimi told him, as she said in an interview, “Went deathly white and went upstairs and said nothing. He never mentioned it again.” Julie then reentered John’s life. She was rather attractive, and less demanding than Mimi. Julie taught John how to play his guitar using banjo chords. However, this newfound happiness was not to stay. On July 15, 1958, while 17-year-old John waited at his house for Julie, she was hit by a speeding car and died. John became bitter and cold after that, and wasn’t ever the same again. HERE COME THE BEATLES Mimi said, “You’re good at the guitar, John, but you can’t make a living with it.” John had made a band, The Quarry Men. They weren’t great yet, but their kind of sound was wanted everywhere. At this point, John met Paul McCartney. Paul taught John how to play actual guitar chords instead of the banjo chords that John used. John invited Paul to play in the band, and then they started writing songs together. (Most of their work was thrown away by one of Paul’s girlfriends while she was cleaning his apartment.) Paul introduced John to 14-year-old George Harrison. George could play guitar better than Paul or John. John invited George into the band. John had grown tall and lanky, and he had begun to develop a rebellious attitude. After Julia’s death, John had begun to drink heavily. At bars, he punched at anyone who even brushed against him. Cynthia Powell saw John as a bullying, drinking, brute. To her, every other word out of his mouth was a swear. Her opinion on that matter changed, however, when she saw John singing in the dining room and playing his guitar. The band also had Pete Best, who played drums. John tried to decide on a name. He liked a band in the U.S. called the Crickets. He liked the name ‘The Beetles’, but as he enjoyed puns, he decided to call the band ‘The Beatles’. ALL YOU NEED IS LOVE The Beatles were made up of John Lennon, George Harrison, Paul McCartney, and Pete Best. They went to perform in Germany, and John wrote long love letters to Cynthia Powell every night. Brian Epstein was a record-store man in the U.S. One day, a customer asked for a Beatles record. Epstein went to Britain to see the Beatles. He liked their sound, so he convinced them to let him be their manager. After much persuasion, they consented. On August 16, 1962, Pete Best got kicked off the band and replaced with Ringo Starr. Ringo Starr was 22 years old, and played excellent drums. Pete Best became a baker. John got some startling news that month too - his girlfriend Cynthia was pregnant. John said, “We’ve got to get married, Cyn.” On August 23, 1962, John and Cynthia were married with Paul, George, Brian, and some of Cynthia’s relatives in attendance. Their son, John Charles Julian Lennon, who they called Julian, was born on April 8, 1963, while John was on tour. While John held Julian, days later, he said, “He’s bloody marvelous, isn’t he, Cyn?” In 1963, The Beatles wrote, performed, and recorded several songs. They performed “She Loves You”, “Till There Was You”, and “Twist and Shout” for the royal family and another audience one night. John said, “Will the people in the cheaper seats clap your hands, the rest of you,” looking at the royal box, “can just rattle your jewelry.” DRUGS John got relief from his fame by writing poems and stories, and drawing. Someone asked, “Do you use onomatopoeia?” John replied, “Automatic pier? I don’t know what you’re talking about.” When it was time to make a speech in front of the literary council, John shuffled to the microphone and muttered, “Thank you very much.” Some people said, “What?” Some other people said, “He said, ‘You’ve got a lucky face.’” At this time, John, Cynthia, George, and George’s wife, Patti were introduced to LSD. LSD causes fantasies and hallucinations. One of George’s friends put LSD into their coffee. When the group found out they insisted upon leaving. On the way home, they experienced weird hallucinations, like red lights turning into fire. John smoked marijuana a lot while the Beatles were making the album Rubber Soul. He also began using LSD frequently. In an interview, John said, “We are more popular than Jesus now.” People began burning Beatles records because of that statement. John then gave an interview saying that he was sorry. John then met Yoko Ono at one of her art shows. Her ‘art’ was very strange, like people rolling around in plastic bags. Soon after, she sent him one of her books. At first, John was annoyed by her writings, but after Yoko sent a flood of letters asking for money, John agreed to fund her art shows. LET IT BE At a religious retreat, John found how to be at peace with himself without using drugs. During the retreat, one of John’s friends called and said that Brian Epstein was dead. The Beatles were scared. Brian had arranged everything for them - they didn’t do anything except for play the music. So they made Apple Corps. , a business that would do everything Brian did. This evolved into Apple Boutique, a company that sold clothes, toys, and memorabilia from that time. John had quit using drugs for the time being, and Cynthia was happy about his improved mood. But when Cynthia left for Greece, John began taking LSD again. A week later, when Cynthia returned, she found Yoko in a bathrobe at John’s apartment, eating breakfast. Cynthia divorced John. The Beatles began to be tense at recording sessions, because John insisted that Yoko be allowed in. John and Yoko became addicted to heroin. The Beatles fell apart, and they played together for the last time on January 30, 1969. INSTANT KARMA! On March 20, 1969, John and Yoko were married, and they began promoting peace by spending days giving news conferences in bed. During one of these ‘bed-ins’, John wrote and recorded the song, “Give Peace a Chance”. They tried to overcome their heroin addiction, and had a son named Sean. John wrote a lot of songs during this time, including: Imagine Mother Instant Karma! Working Class Hero Give Peace a Chance Cold Turkey Mind Games Power to the People AND IN THE END On December 8, 1980, at 10:50 p.m., Mark David Chapman stepped up to John’s limo, and as John and Yoko got out, fired five bullets. Four hit John. John Lennon died at Roosevelt Hospital. Chapman was only sentenced to 20 years of prison. John Lennon is considered by many to be the greatest rock musician ever, but to me he is more than that. He spread the message of peace with his music, and influenced so many bands. John Lennon is my hero.
Imagine all the people…living life for peace You may say I’m a dreamer--but I’m not the only one I hope someday you’ll join us--then the world will live as one.
This was, like, my best school paper ever.

Hello, my name is Hannah Merseal, and I would like to be your Student Council president because I enjoy coming up with new ideas like the concept of getting new playground equipment in a fun way. I could come up with ideas for certain topics. I would be an organized, well-behaved, president. Ever since I came here, I have wanted to run for office. I think that I would be a very good choice for your Student Council president. I know quite a few people who think the exact same thing. If I win, I will help make this school a better place. I know whom I am up against. They may have been at this school longer, but I am not giving up. I really want to win. Remember, Hannah Merseal would like your ‘seal’ of approval! Thank You.
I lost that election. To an idiot. Then he got booted off the council THE EXACT DAY that a new person would take over. So I was president for one (1) day. Yay!

Stem Cells: A Helpful Discovery Cancer and loss of body parts kill millions, if not billions, of people each year. However, scientists have found a way to save these people. This invention is called a stem cell. The prospect of stem cells was brought up by Canadian scientists Ernest A. McCulloch and James E. Till, in the 1960’s. From 2001-2006, George W. Bush passed a law outlawing stem cell use and research. However, in 2006, Missouri allowed research, but prohibited use of stem cells. This year, in January of 2009, President Barack Obama lifted all bans on stem cells. Stem cells are small cells found in most multi-celled organisms. They can copy themselves through mitotic cell division. There are two types of stem cells: embryonic and adult. Embryonic stem cells can be found in embryos, as the name suggests. Adult stem cells can be found in other people. The cool part is that stem cells can change into other cells, like blood cells, or nerve tissue cells, or bone cells. So, if we transfused enough stem cells, into an organism, we could cure Parkinson’s disease, or cancer, or grow back missing parts. We could have saved Chris Reeve, the man who played Superman, if we had had stem cells to grow back the one-eighth of an inch of nerve cell missing from his spine. That is the good that stem cells can do. However, there is one enemy to be found in stem cells: cancer. Cancer is a form of stem cells reproducing badly, and that can really mess you up. Cancer kills a lot of people and animals, although properly formed stem cells could cure cancer. I think we should use stem cells for good and save people and research the stem cells. Maybe someday we’ll be able to clone oxygen particles and other necessities too! In the meantime we can halt enemies like cancer and Parkinson’s disease right in their tracks if we get good enough with stem cells. Let’s change the world!
