another late night out, this was the third night this week stasya was coming home after midnight. she knew denver suspected something was up but, at this point, she didn't even care. ever since reconnecting with her best friend from when she was a teenager, she was glad to get out and spend time with him. she wouldn't lie, the physical chemistry was still there between them, but nothing had ever happened. he was her best friend first and foremost and he was there for her just as much now as he was when they were kids.
it wasn't that she needed the company of another man to make her happy. she just wanted the company of someone that knew and accepted her. a thirty year old woman with four kids needed out sometimes, especially when her patience was wearing thin and she felt like snapping. lately, her and denver had been fighting more too; probably because of her unexplained disappearances several times a week.
as she walked through the front door, she almost sighed in relief at the dark and quiet house. the kids were in bed, denver probably was too. she quietly shut the door and locked it, heading to the kitchen to get a drink before going to bed.

Denver sat in the bedroom watching t.v. after a night of fighting with children that did not want to sleep plus the fact he worried about his wife. Stasya had been disappearing often lately as soon as she could get the kids down, leaving Denny to fight the cranky children. Plus she never really explained where she was going. He would usually get small one answer replies that didn't give an answer. He missed his wife and missed cuddling with her. Sure the life in the bedroom wasn't as crazy as it used to be, but with four kids why would it be? Usually it would be bedtime for kids, get the house somewhat in order, then go to bed themselves.
He looked up as he heard her get into the house. Should he go out there and greet her? Or would he let her discover herself he was up. Honestly he wanted to go greet her, but he was not in the mood for that and that would end with fighting. Yet with the nagging feeling that something just couldn't be right if she was always gone was irking him.
He slipped on a pair of shorts and went out to the kitchen. "Nice to see you." He gave a small smile, having only seen her for a split second when he got home. "Had a good night?"

stasya turned when she heard the floor creek at the entrance to the kitchen, soon followed by the familiar sound of his voice. she gave a small smile in return, "you too." she filled a glass with water and took a drink when he asked about her night. she smirked and nodded. it was almost like a blast from the past, getting high and playing video games and talking. of course, she was almost completely sober now.
she didn't feel guilty for leaving him to take care of the kids. parenting was an equal job, wasn't it? she took care of the motherly/wife duties most of the time, only asking for a few nights a week to have to herself. she didn't feel like that was too much. after all, denver was allowed the same thing when he wanted it. "how were the kids? not too fussy, i hope."

Denver nodded slowly, keeping the smile on his face. He was aggravated enough as it was due to the night he had, and the fact that she'd been going out so often just added fuel to the fire. He went up to her and gave her a small kiss before giving a shrug.
"Motley woke up about two hours ago complaining of not feeling well. He threw up and he has a fever." He started trying to think "Oh. Zophia's still not asleep. I have done everything in my power but if you listen she's singing to herself. That was wonderful to argue with when Motley got up." He muttered. He shrugged. "Just a lonely night other then that." Sure parenting was a two person deal but seeing as he only got to see them for about 30 minutes before they went to bed wasn't ideal for him. "I would like to see my wife every once in a while." He shrugged and pet the German Shepard, his partner, as she came up investigating what had been going on. "Go lay down, Beya." He told the dog. She put her paws up on him. "You know for a brave scary police dog you sure are pathetic off of work." He grabbed a rawhide bone from off the counter and gave it to her and she went on her business.

stasya resisted the urge to tilt her head curiously. she could see through his smile, she knew he wasn't happy. maybe to a degree, but not like he was trying to make her think. typically, it would annoy her that he wasn't just being real with her but, right now, she was in a good mood and didn't feel like fighting.
she frowned and her eyebrows raised in concern. "do you think i should take him to the doctor tomorrow?" even for having kids for fourteen years, it still made her feel a little weird being so concerned so quickly about someone. she sighed and shook her head about zophia still being awake, such a stubborn little shit that girl could be... just like her mom. stasya shook her head to keep from smirking again. "you do see me," she said before taking another drink from the glass. "maybe not quite as much as before but... it's not like i'm never home." she shrugged a bit and looked at the dog.

Denver stared and shook his head "He should be fine. I think he just has a cold or something. I wouldn't worry unless he got up again since usually with him once he's out he's out." He chuckled. "I don't know if Rian is still awake or not, but if she is we'll hear it tomorrow how Zo kept her up." He sighed.
"We see each other for two minutes and your gone." Denver told her. "And I'm never home. I work, often." He was trying to change that with this latest promotion. "I mean I get to see you for a couple hours every night and now you've been gone. I've missed you." He went to her and put his arms around her and kissed her again, but this time not letting her go. She was his, and he wanted it to stay that way. "I'm off tomorrow though." He kissed her neck, giving a small bite. He thought maybe she just wanted some love. "Did you get high?" He looked up at her with a frown getting a whiff of the distinct smell. He knew he had no say, but he didn't like it. He bit his tongue trying not to say anything stupid or make her think he was treating her as a child.
Beya looked up from her rawhide and barked as Zophia entered into the kitchen. "I can't sleep." She whined and looked at Stasya and smiled "Hi mommy!" The seven year old knew damn well what she was doing. "Zophia, bed." Denver sighed looking at the small girl. Zophia whined. "I'm not tired! I tried sleeping! I did!" She pouted. Denver looked at her "Well if you don't go lay down you're going to bed with a sore behind." "No!" Zophia crossed her arms and stomped her foot. "Mommy!" she looked at Stasya, hoping she would back her up.

stasya nodded, relaxing a little bit but still having her absurd maternal habit of over-worrying about her babies. she chuckled quietly and nodded, wondering if rian wasn't part of the reason zophia was still up. the girl were like cat and mouse but they were as thick as thieves. "unless she's the one teaching zophie to be so damn stubborn." she shook her head, a small smile on her lips.
she looked at him and sighed, frowning a bit. this seemed to be the most intimate part of their conversation; the rest had seemed so strained and formal, like people that had just met or barely knew each other. this wasn't the first time it had been like this though; it had been like this for a while. when they weren't fighting, their conversations was strained, formal, awkward... she knew he wasn't happy with how he barely got to see her anymore but the only guilt she felt was for not being with the kids more. she tensed a little as he held her, his suggestive comments and refusal to release her a sure sign of what he had in mind. honestly, she felt a little uncomfortable just in his arms. she tensed more at his question then looked at him, knowing her still slightly-red eyes would confirm before she had to say anything, "yes." she knew he didn't like it; just like how he didn't like that she had a hard time controlling her emotions at time. she pursed her lips and suppressed a sigh.
things with denver these days were getting so uncomfortable and unnecessary. being married to him felt like a chore now. he wasn't the boy he had been when they had met, or when he had jumped in to help her with demitrius, or when they had gotten married. he was a hardened man, calloused from bottled up grief that he never expressed. lately, a certain word had been floating around the back of her mind, making itself more obvious at times... a big word that could change everything. at first, she had a hard time even thinking the word but it was starting to seem like the only choice left for everyone to be happy. divorce couldn't be so bad, could it?
she smiled as her youngest came downstairs, her mini me. she looked at denver then back to zophia and nodded, "you know it's way past your bed time, young lady. come give me a hug and then get back up to bed; i'll come tuck you in before i go to bed." again, the only pang of guilt she felt hit her. "daddy and i need to talk, alone, okay baby?"

Denver looked up as she said they needed to talk and whatever happiness he was trying to muster just instantly fell. He knew he wasn't being completely honest with her. Hell he wasn't being completely honest with himself. He looked at Zophia and then at Stasya and rolled his eyes putting on a fake smile for the child. "Mommy you are not helping me here."
Zophia smiled falling for both of her parents fake smiles. She ran and hugged Stasya's legs. "I love you mommy!" She ran back to her room, though not closing the door. "Zophia, close the door." Denver snickered and shook his head. "This has been all night." "I forgot!" Zophia called and closed the door.
Denver looked at Stasya and put the fake smile back on "She forgot." He was freaked out now. I mean, if they needed to talk and Stasya was so calm with Zophia something wasn't right. "Babe what's wrong?" he asked, trying not to freak himself out. She probably just wanted to tell him how she wasn't happy with something he did. Yet Denver's mind went to the worst as it always had.
